CLIMATE & WEATHER

Russia’s central heating system is the number one in the world. In Russia, central heating means something different than in the Western countries: Here, workplaces, schools, homes, universities, stores, offices and all hostels are warmed by central heating and hot water. The government turns on the heat at the end of October and keeps it on until early May.

The level of indoor heat is set for all of Russia by a few anonymous local administrators.

Heaters also work in public transport during the winter months. When you are in your hostel’s room, in a classroom, on the bus, in a cafe, museum or any other public place, you won’t be likely to get cold and even hot water is available for all winter.
